The Grand Eastbourne backs top triathletes

The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne is supporting two of the world’s leading triathletes ahead of the inaugural Eastbourne Triathlon on Sunday 12 June.

The five star seafront hotel will be offering complimentary accommodation to Ben Allen and Jacqui Slack for the weekend of the race, providing them with everything they need to be race-ready for the big day.

Ben Allen is a world class professional triathlete with over a decade of racing experience. Although Ben is usually based in his home country of Australia, he’ll be travelling from the world’s elite endurance athletes’ base camp in France for the Eastbourne event, going up against seven-time world champion Richard Stannard.

Jacqui Slack is a former British Champion triathlete and has won 9 XTERRA World Cup races. She’ll be facing tough competition in the women’s race from Eastbourne local Yvette Grice who will have the support of the home crowd behind her.

The Eastbourne Triathlon event starts from the Western Lawns on the historic seafront and consists of a 600 metre sea swim, 25 kilometre cycle through the South Downs National Park and a five kilometre run with a glorious promenade finish. The event has been relaunched for 2016 and Eastbourne’s leading luxury hotel The Grand was quick to lend its support.

General manager of The Grand Jonathan Webley said: “Eastbourne is a great destination for outdoor sport with the fantastic coastline and countryside surrounding us. The relaunched Eastbourne Triathlon will bring top athletes from across the world to our town and will be a great boost for tourism, which is why The Grand is lending its support to two of the competing professional athletes. We look forward to welcoming Ben and Jacqui and cheering them on at the event.”

The Eastbourne Triathlon has been re-launched in 2016, organised by Beyond Sport Marketing. The event is supporting the Eastbourne Voluntary Lifeguards and Rockinghorse – the fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital. The event is open to professional and amateur athletes with registration online at
