Murder, mince pies and more at Ashdown Park

As the days get shorter and the nights get colder it can become tempting to batten down the hatches and hibernate, but luxury East Sussex hotel Ashdown Park is giving guests plenty of reasons to venture outside this November.

Providing the ultimate winter comfort dining experience is Ashdown Park’s Pudding Dinner on Saturday 12 November at 7pm for £45 per person. The evening will begin with a set starter and main course of smoked salmon and crème fraiche with watercress and spring onion tart, followed by ox cheek suet pudding with parsnip and truffle potatoes.

Once the first two courses have been enjoyed, guests can really get their teeth into main event of the evening – pudding. The dishes will be prepared and served by Ashdown Park’s head chef Andrew Wilson, who guests will meet as he presents his classic creations that will bring back memories of much-loved classic desserts.


Diners will have the opportunity to totally indulge with a selection of four delicious puddings, including steamed jam sponge with custard, ice cream bombe, rhubarb crumble with lashings of custard and black forest gâteau. Once the desserts have been tried, tested and savoured, guests can crown their favourite by voting for their ‘pudding of the night’.

Also on Saturday 12 November, adding an element of drama and intrigue to proceedings is a Murder Mystery Dinner. The theatrical event will give guests the opportunity to turn detective for the evening and as the story unfolds they will have to decide for themselves who is guilty of the gruesome crime.

Guests will witness scenes of events that took place in the run-up to the murder followed by suspect interrogation as they are joined at their tables by a selection of suspicious characters. The evening concludes with a nail-biting flashback portrayal of the murder and the winning team of guests is revealed.

The event begins with drinks and canapés, followed by dinner with accompanying wine and tickets are available for £75 per person.

Events will be taking a brighter, festive turn when Ashdown Park’s festive table decoration workshop with afternoon tea returns on Thursday 24 November, hosted by estates manager Kevin Sweet. Kevin and his team will be using berries and foliage foraged from the hotel’s own grounds in this creative hands-on workshop showing guests how to jazz up their Christmas table which will be followed by a delicious afternoon tea. The masterclass and afternoon tea takes place at 1pm with tickets available for £39.50 per person. This event is always extremely popular and so advanced booking is required.

Ending the month on a high, Friday 25 November is Ashdown Park’s Spa Shopping Evening taking place in the hotel’s Country Club. Guests at the event will have the chance to purchase products from well-known luxury brands including Molton Brown and Kerstin Florien as well as the infamous Ashdown Park teddy bears and a selection of homemade products prepared by the hotel’s very own head chef. Attendees at the event looking to take out membership at the club can enjoy a waived membership fee for one night only and be entered into the free raffle prize draw for the chance to win an afternoon tea for two.

Fitting for the time of year a selection of festive refreshments will also be available including complimentary mulled wine, mince pies and winter warming mini mugs of soup.
