Kent’s Chapel Down Launches Pinot Noir Gin

Chapel Down, one of Kent and Britain’s most exciting drinks companies, has launched the third product in its range of premium spirits.

Chapel Down Pinot Noir Gin (41.2% abv) is a highly aromatic gin produced with distilled Pinot Noir grape skins from the Chapel Down harvest which is then blended with English wheat spirit.

It is believed this is the first-ever gin made from pinot noir grapes.

Chapel Down is Kent and England’s largest winemaker, and when it plants its newly-leased land in Kent, will have almost 1,000 acres under vine. Last month it also opened a bar & restaurant, the Chapel Down Gin Works, at Kings Cross. And next month it will open a new brewery for its beer brand, Curious Brew.

Mark Harvey, Managing Director of Chapel Down Wine & Spirits says, “Chapel Down Pinot Noir Gin has all the attributes to become a superstar product within our range.

“Stunning to look at, the pink frosted bottle comes in the same D&AD design awarded form as the Bacchus Gin and Chardonnay Vodka. And there is a subtlety of flavour which has surprised and delighted all that have tasted this Gin so far. Unique and delicious, a fantastic new addition to the family!”

Chapel Down Head Winemaker, Josh Donaghay-Spire, has used his extensive winemaking expertise to create a truly unique gin, saying, “Not only have we made use of the skins, we’ve added additional complexity by matching the botanicals with the characteristics of the Pinot Noir grape.

‘This means the gin is infused with juniper, coriander, dried red berries, rose buds, citrus fruits, rosehip, angelica and grains of paradise, all of which brilliantly reflect Pinot Noir.

“The result is an aromatic pink gin with delicate aromas of red berries which perfectly balance the juniper led palate and refreshing citrus finish.  This is our best yet.”

Chapel Down Pinot Noir Gin (RRP £35.00 70ml) is now available for an exclusive launch period in Selfridges and direct from Chapel Down at www.chapeldown.com and will soon be available widely in both on and off trade outlets.
