Goodwood rooting for Hall in Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards

Golf At Goodwood ambassador and Women’s British Open champion Georgia Hall is in the running for two prizes at the 2018 Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards on Thursday 1 November.

The prestigious awards, now in their 31st year, celebrate the outstanding contribution to sport made by elite performers, coaches, administrators, community volunteers and inspirational women. Hall’s achievements this year, in particular her breakthrough victory in the Open, have earned her a place on the shortlist for both Sportswoman of the Year and Young Sportswoman of the Year.

In the senior category, Hall is up against track cyclist Katie Archibald, sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, mountain biker Rachel Atherton, triathlete Vicky Holland and recently retired skeleton racer Lizzy Yarnold. In the young sportswoman award, Hall faces slopestyle skier Izzy Atkin, sports shooter Seonaid McIntosh and diver Grace Reid.

Speaking about being shortlisted, Hall said; “It is an honour to be in the running for two awards and so exciting for me to be named alongside these other great athletes. The ceremony is in London and I am really looking forward to going. It is wonderful that my achievements, and those of other female sportswomen, are being celebrated and I am very pleased to be able to represent golf at such a prestigious occasion.”

Golf At Goodwood General Manager Stuart Gillett said; “We are so delighted that Georgia has been shortlisted in two categories at the Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards. It is testament to the enormous strides she has made this year and will help grow awareness of women’s golf. We are all rooting for her, but whether she wins or not on Thursday, we are extremely proud of what she has so far achieved and how she is inspiring our own juniors and female players.”

Making the final decision is an esteemed panel of judges, including Olympic heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington, seven-time British ski racing champion Chemmy Alcott, Paralympic legend Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Olympic gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu, double Olympic gold medal-winner Helen Glover and TV presenter Gabby Logan.
