The annual event is a nationwide campaign, organised by VisitBritain to celebrate tourism in England, and this will be the first year the City has participated collectively.

The Tourism Alliance will also be working with Brilliant Brighton (BID), Brighton & Hove Buses, Brighton Marina, Brighton Palace Pier, Brighton & Hove Hotels Association, Brighton & Hove Restaurant Association, Churchill Square and many others who are looking to be involved – making it a truly Citywide collaboration.

Tourism Alliance events during English Tourism Week include:

Saturday 25 March (11am) – Join the Mayor of Brighton and Hove and some of his 27 charities at Brighton Palace Pier for the official opening of English Tourism Week in the city.

Saturday 25 March (2pm)- The Big Brighton Fringe Variety Bus New Road.  An afternoon of free Brighton Fringe performances. Expect choirs, comedy, cabaret and more from England’s largest arts festival as it reveals a glimpse of its 2017 Programme.

Saturday 01 / Sunday 02 April (10-30am – 4.30pm) – Brighton Marina Boat Show Weekend.  A weekend of boats, exhibitions, entertainment and Marina life!

As well as events there will be promotions, competitions and special offers from Tourism Alliance members and other partners to celebrate English Tourism Week.

Welcoming the initiative, Anne Martin, Chair of the Brighton and Hove Tourism Alliance, commented:  “This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the importance of tourism to our local and national economy and recognise the many who work in the industry. Brighton and Hove Tourism Alliance are pleased to be working with so many others to celebrate English Tourism Week and coordinate events that will showcase the best of Brighton & Hove.”

As part of English Tourism Week, Brighton & Hove residents and visitors will be invited to participate in the #patontheback Twitter campaign which aims to celebrate the many people at the coal face of tourism and hospitality who work so hard to provide a great visit to the city.

Use the hashtags #patontheback  #etw17 #Brighton with the name of the person, business, or organisation you want to recognise and the reason why.
