Eastbourne Strikes Gold in Top Tourism Awards

Eastbourne’s Tourist Information Centre and annual airshow Airbourne, both struck gold and silver this week at the prestigious Beautiful South Awards.

Winning gold for Visitor Information Service of the Year, Eastbourne’s Tourist Information Centre team picked up the sought after accolade at the Oscars style event on 10 December, pipping other nominees Oxford and Petersfield to the post.

Airbourne, Eastbourne’s international airshow followed suit picking up silver for the coveted Tourism Event/Festival of the Year at the glittering awards ceremony in Brighton, hosted this year by TV travel guru Simon Calder.

Organised by Tourism South East, the annual awards have seen success for both Airbourne and the Tourist Information team before, with both achieving gold at the awards previously.

Eastbourne Borough Council Director for Tourism and Enterprise, Phil Evans said “To be nominated as one of the best events and visitor information centres across the south east alone is quite an accolade but to pick up gold, is an incredible achievement.

It is a huge testament to the hard work put in by these teams in providing a first class service and a top notch event, along with the assistance of the many other organisations and volunteers who support our events all year round.”

Following their gold award success, Eastbourne Tourist Information team will now be eligible to enter the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, which recognises the very best of the country’s tourism industry, celebrating quality, innovation and best practice.

The team are currently offering a letters to Santa service from their North Pole post box at the Centre in Cornfield Road, with guaranteed replies from Santa himself for any letters received by 20 December.

Airbourne enjoyed another successful year in 2019, featuring the world renowned Breitling Jet team from France, for their first ever visit to Sussex.  Airbourne returns from 13 – 16 August 2020 with the promise of a packed flying line up once again.
