The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne serves up an ace with tennis-themed afternoon tea

The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, Britain’s only five-star seaside resort, is celebrating the start of the tennis summer season with a themed afternoon tea available for a limited time only.

With Wimbledon fever already heating up across the country and Eastbourne hosting the Aegon International Tennis Tournament from 20 –  25 June, The Grand is adapting its ever popular tea offering to reflect the traditional British pastime.

Coinciding with the Wimbledon season, the special menu will be available between Saturday 18 June and Saturday 9 July for both residential and non-residential guests.

The menu will include a Queen’s coronation chicken sandwich, a Virginia ham sandwich and a very traditional cucumber and cream cheese sandwich. Sweet treats include an English strawberry and cream tartlet and a Pimms jelly, both in keeping with quintessential Wimbledon flavours.

Alongside the themed afternoon tea guests at the hotel can also enjoy two limited edition tennis-themed cocktails created by the hotel’s talented bar staff. The Grand Slam is a refreshing mix of Midori melon liquor and the juice of half a lime, topped up with ginger beer and served over crushed ice. For those looking for something a little more indulgent, The English Picnic is made with Chase rhubarb vodka, strawberry syrup and fresh cream, garnished with frozen berries.

The afternoon tea will be available between 2.45pm – 6.30pm over the eight-day period for £26 per person.
