POLPO TEAM UP WITH REFUGE FOR MONTH-LONG CELEBRATION OF WOMEN IN HONOUR OF ‘IL MESE DELLA DONNA’
This March, POLPO restaurants will host a series of events in partnership with Refuge, the UK charity that supports women and children whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. In honour of Il Mese Della Donna, or ‘women’s month’, the one-off dinners will celebrate inspirational women.
The first event takes place on 18th March at POLPO Brighton. Diners will enjoy a Venetian feast including POLPO favourites; Fritto misto, Spicy pork and fennel meatballs, Stuffed fried olives, Prosciutto & Gorgonzola pizzette, Mushroom & truffle arancini and Affogato al caffé, alongside a talk from Kimberley Thomas, Corporate Partnerships Senior Manager of Refuge charity.
Next up, on 21st March, the Campari Bar in the original POLPO on Beak Street, Soho will play host to a wine tasting dinner in collaboration with Passione Vino, the Italian wine bar and shop in Shoreditch. The event will be co-hosted by POLPO’s head barkeep Emanuela Catena, and Passione Vino co-founder Luca Dusi. Luca has sourced wines from lesser-known, small female producers, to be paired with a bespoke set menu.
The month will culminate in a dinner on 28th March at POLPO Soho, punctuated by a talk from Lisa King, Director of Communications at Refuge, highlighting issues facing women today.
Managing Director of POLPO, Scott Macdonald, says, “Il Mese Della Donna is an important month for us at POLPO, and it’s fantastic to work with Refuge on such a worthy cause. Our aim is to celebrate the women who make POLPO what it is, as well as all the women in the hospitality industry and beyond – and as any Italian ‘nonna’ knows, the best way to show someone you love them is by feeding them.”
CEO of Refuge, Sandra Horley, adds, “Refuge is delighted to be partnering with POLPO in March to champion and support women throughout the Mese della Donna and beyond. Every day Refuge works tirelessly to support thousands of women and children experiencing violence and abuse. Refuge is thrilled to have the support of POLPO in raising awareness of our life-saving and life-changing specialist services.”
Those unable to make it to the dinners should head to POLPO on 8th March for La Festa Della Donna, the Italian version of International Women’s Day. In Italy, mimosa flowers are presented to women on this day and Mothers’ Day as a sign of appreciation and respect. All POLPO restaurants will be transformed into a Venetian garden, decorated with bright yellow mimosa flowers, which will fill the room with the scent of honey and almonds, and given to female diners as they leave on both 8th and 11th March.
Tickets for the dinners are available from https://www.polpo.co.uk/events. £35 per person, including a set menu of sharing plates and a glass of prosecco on arrival.
