As part of the celebrations, PRS for Music hosted a launch party, with a presentation at the premises and live performances from DJ Melody Kane, local talent Øvre and members of Brighton’s trailblazing Afropunk collective Lakuta at Brighton club Patterns. Renowned local street artist Cassette Lord also appeared, creating live art at the venue. Local businesses Bison Beer and Hell’s Kitchen were on hand to provide food and drinks at the salon.

PRS for Music launched the annual Music Makeover competition six years ago to showcase and raise awareness of how important music is to local businesses. From the quality of the sound system, to acoustics, volume and playlists, music has a huge impact on both customers and staff.

Guy Fletcher OBE, PRS Chairman and Music Makeover Judge, said: “I really liked Simon and Sophie’s energy and enthusiasm in their salon. What particularly impressed me was that they are incorporating local artists and talent within their music offering. We love that they care about Brighton’s wider music community alongside their business. Congratulations to the team.”

Winner Sophie Webster: “We’re over the moon! Thank you so much PRS for Music. Music is such a vital part of the experience we want to create for our customers. It helps them to feel welcome and relaxed, it’s also an important part of our brand. We try hard to work with all the amazing creative industries in Brighton with music at the forefront and we’re so excited to finally be able to have a music system that reflects our passion.”
